Cancellation and refund policy: Refunds will be available to any student who needs to withdraw from the workshop for any reason, minus a $40 cancellation fee. This fee increases to $115 for cancelling within 4 weeks of class, and to $230 for cancelling within 2 weeks. Any cancellation fee can apply as a discount toward attending a future class that is within one year of the original workshop date. A no-show without prior notice will result in forfeiting the class fee.
If you’re feeling sick prior to the class, please cancel for our mutual wellness, and use the discount to join us when you’re feeling better!
In the unlikely event that the class must be cancelled entirely, you will receive a full refund for class fees, and you agree not to hold me responsible for any other expenses.
Payment policy: Payment may be made in full, or in two equal deposits. If you pay with a deposit, keep an eye out for an email 2 weeks prior to class to finalize the second payment.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring? For workshops that take place at a massage school, all you’ll need are comfy clothes, two sets of sheets, two face cradle covers, and your oil or lotion of choice. For workshops at hotel meeting spaces, you’ll need everything above, and I’ll ask for volunteers to bring tables and bolsters.
What do the two days look like? Both days start at 9:00 am and end at 6:00 pm, with an hour-long break for lunch at about 1:00 pm. Day one is all about easing you in, talking about fascia (no prior experience needed!), and getting a feel for offering profound contact using your body weight. There are two trades on that first day, but we start with self-massage, discussion, and warm-up. The first sequence is all about static contacts with the back, and the second is a really fun fully-clothed routine that includes side-lying work.
On day two, we keep the principles that we learned on day one, and we add some flow! You’ll learn how to offer that “getting ironed out” feeling, all without breaking a sweat. We’ll do a back routine, a long and luxurious neck and shoulder routine, and we end the day with some very safe-feeling hip work.
How big are the classes? Each class is capped at 16 students, with some being as small as 10-12 students. I aim to offer plenty of individual attention and hands-on time.
How do I pay? You will be asked to make a credit card payment during the sign-up process using Square via Acuity, and this can either be the full class fee or a deposit of half the fee. If you make a deposit, I’ll email you two weeks prior to class to see how you’d like to make the second payment.
Who will I be working on? Students will work on each other in pairs or triads, and I’ll walk you through each and every sequence. You don’t need to bring anyone or sign up with a buddy.
I do count on us having the same number of givers and receivers for every trade, so if you are unable to receive work, you can bring a friend or colleague to work on (just let me know about this in advance). You can always choose to sit out of any trade and simply observe.
Are there notes? Power point slides? You’ll get a note packet at the beginning of the course, and I’m always happy to send you a digital version upon request. There are no power point presentations during this class.
Do you sell products during class? Nope! There is no upselling of any kind. Sometimes people are bummed that I don’t have copies of my book on hand, so if you think you might be interested in that (which is not required in any way!), you can read more about it here.
I find CE classes really stressful. Will this work for me? I think so! As someone who deals with anxiety, I’ve learned a lot about what can make me comfortable in a group experience. I’ve also had plenty of continuing education experiences that made me want to flee out the nearest window. Just know that this will be a soft landing: We start gradually, with some introduction, self-massage, and even some guided meditation. The massage trades are fully narrated, and you’re never left to wonder what to do next, or whether you’re doing it right. My goal is for the class to be easy, fun, and refreshing.
If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed or touched out, or you just need a break, you are always welcome to sit out of massage trades and simply observe.
I have learning or sensory needs. Can you accommodate them? Almost certainly. I provide written notes, I demonstrate the techniques on a volunteer, and I walk you through each sequence step-by-step as you practice. There will be no point at which you’re expected to remember a long series of moves, and I’ll always be right there to assist if you’d like me to guide your hands. If you have sensory sensitivities or processing differences, I’m always happy to turn any music down or off, change the lighting, etc. Just let me know how I can make the class work best for you, and I’ll do my very best.
I have a physical difference or disability. Can I still take this class? Yes. While this class does normally involve standing and offering your body weight to clients, we do so in a way that feels very stable: You’ll be bolstered against the table and letting your client support you. This can be doable for some people who have gait or standing difficulties, and it can even feel comfortable in a way that other modalities don’t. Many of the techniques in this course can be adapted for a seated practitioner, and nearly all of them can be done with alternative tools (fists, forearms, etc). This work can also be exceedingly gentle while still getting results. If needed, you can always choose to observe during any sequence. If you are unsure whether this course will suit your physical needs and capabilities, please feel free to email me with questions.
Why is there a cancellation fee? Because my classes are so small, any cancellation can lead to a substantial amount of work in the best case, and to lost opportunities for another student who could have attended in the worst case. Just know that I do understand that withdrawals are sometimes necessary, and I hope you use the resulting discount to join us when you can.
Will you teach in my area? I’m currently looking for a few more places to hold my workshop — preferably near large population centers so that it’s convenient for lots of students. I look for big spaces so that everyone can see each other work, with 8 massage tables or more. If you know a massage school or other CE space that fits the bill, I’d love to hear more!
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. You can always see the description of the course here, or see my current schedule of workshops here. If you’d like to join the mailing list and get first dibs on every new offering, sign up here.
